GunZRs: a Rust reimplementation of GunZ: The Duel
A Rust/Bevy port reads GunZ: The Duel files from the user's installation and provides native releases, browser build tooling, screenshots and a documented REA/Ghidra investigation framework. Its LAN protocol and inferred movement behavior remain distinct from retail-server compatibility and proven gameplay parity.
Requirements & limits
- Prerequisites: Requires the user's GunZ: The Duel installation; no original game files are included. Native downloads target Linux/Windows, with Linux builds requiring the documented system libraries; WebGPU needs localhost or HTTPS and packs built from the user's data.
- Attribution: The README documents REA/Ghidra use for static questions about retail files. This supports a mixed investigation workflow, not attribution of every gameplay subsystem to REA.
- Limits: LAN uses the port's own protocol and does not connect to retail servers; several round/quest/Blitzkrieg modes are not played over LAN. Movement constants and some content choices are inferred, and parity with the Steam client is unproven.
- License: The project says gameplay has been exercised on Linux; Windows/macOS CI builds are not reported gameplay tests. Code is Apache-2.0, bundled fonts retain OFL terms, and original game files remain separately owned.
