SavvyCAN

Capture or load CAN bus traffic and investigate frames with sniffer, graphing, file-comparison and ISO-TP/UDS decoding views; loaded or analyst-edited DBC files map raw bytes to named signals. Separate custom-sender, fuzzing and UDS-scan windows transmit frames on a live bus.

Requirements and limitations

  • Latest GitHub release: V220, published 2025-05-09, with Linux AppImage, Windows x64 and macOS builds; the README says the current macOS build appears to need macOS 10.15+. The project site's binary links and changelog end at V208 (2022) and are not V220 release notes. Its continuous build follows the newest commit without stability promises.
  • Source builds need Qt 5.14+ with QtSerialBus support; a Qt 6 work-in-progress branch is described as beta quality. The interface needs at least a 1024x768 display.
  • Live capture uses GVRET-firmware boards such as the recommended CANDue, or Qt SerialBus drivers including SocketCAN, Vector, PEAK and TinyCAN. Loading the listed log formats needs no capture device; CANDump/Kayak, PCAN Viewer and Wireshark SocketCAN PCAP support is read-only.
  • MIT. Fuzzing and UDS scanning send frames to connected vehicles or devices, and the fuzzing help warns this can cause unsafe behavior. Signal meanings come from DBC definitions or analyst work rather than automatic recovery. No capture or transmission was performed.
