Tool

IDA Pro

Hex-Rays' commercial interactive disassembler, decompiler and debugger, which turns compiled code for more than 70 processor families into annotated, cross-referenced assembly and decompiled pseudocode. Its 15 decompilers cover 32- and 64-bit x86, ARM, MIPS, PowerPC and RISC-V as well as ARC, V850, TriCore, Hexagon and Android DEX; the Dalvik decompiler, new in IDA 9.5 alongside TriCore and Hexagon, renders DEX bytecode as Java pseudocode. Documented loaders include PE, ELF and Mach-O with Apple dyld shared caches and kernelcaches, DEX, UEFI firmware images, WebAssembly modules and console formats such as Xbox XBE, N64, SNES ROM and PlayStation PSX executables, and the processor list names console CPUs from the NES and Game Boy to the PlayStation 3 Cell, Xbox 360 Xenon and PSP Allegrex. The debugger runs locally or through remote debug servers for Windows, Linux, macOS and Android, and analysis can be scripted with IDAPython, IDC and the C++ SDK, run without a GUI through the idalib library, or driven from MCP clients through IDA MCP.

Requirements & limits

  • Prerequisites: Release at review: IDA 9.5 (build 9.5.261026), announced 2026-10-26. Hosts: macOS 12+ (x64 or ARM64); x64 Windows 10 1607+ for the GUI, Windows 7+ for text-mode or headless use; 64-bit Linux, where the installation guide names CentOS 7 or Ubuntu 16.04 and the IDA Free page glibc 2.28 (Debian 10, Ubuntu 18.10, RHEL 8) on x86-64 or ARM64. IDAPython needs Python 3.11+.
  • License: Commercial, sold only as yearly subscriptions; perpetual licenses ended on 2024-09-30, and those bought earlier keep working for the version purchased. IDA Pro Essential has two cloud decompilers from one family, Expert two, four or six local ones and Ultimate all local ones, on Named, Computer or Floating licenses; IDA Pro Headless is an OEM license for servers, CI and embedding in products.
  • License: IDA Free and IDA Home are Named licenses for non-commercial use only. Free disassembles only x86 and x86-64, decompiles them in the cloud and debugs locally on x86/x64; Home has 70+ disassemblers, 11 cloud decompilers (32- and 64-bit x86, ARM, MIPS, PowerPC and RISC-V, plus Android DEX) and local or GDB-server debugging. Cloud decompilers need an Internet connection.
  • Limits: The IDA 9.5 release notes say the Dalvik decompiler does not rebuild try-with-resources, can emit output that is not valid Java and gives obfuscated files no special treatment, and that the new UEFI plugin focuses on the DXE environment and is still being refined.
