Tool
Dex-Editor-Android
Work-in-progress Android app for editing DEX files on the device, built on a modified in-tree copy of Google's smali, baksmali and dexlib2. It loads one or more DEX files into a class tree and opens classes as smali in a Sora Editor view with method, field and string lists, label jumps, search and replace, method flow diagrams and Jadx decompilation of a class or method to Java, then deletes classes or recompiles the edited DEX files. The README credits MT Manager for the app's logic and interface ideas.

Requirements & limits
- Latest release at review: v2.0-sora-editor, published 2026-06-09 with one app-release.apk, while the README's sample-app link still points to v1.3_final of 2025-04-29; the reviewed main commit of 2026-07-29 adds later fixes and merged contributor pull requests. The README lists DEX format versions 40 and, partially, 41, and its to-do list still has batch class insertion and extraction and a direct class renamer.
- Build with Android Studio, JDK 17 or 21, Gradle 9.5.0 and Android Gradle Plugin 9.2.1; app/build.gradle compiles against SDK 37 with minSdk 24 and targetSdk 28, and the README also mentions Sketchware Pro on Java 11. Dependencies include jadx-core 1.4.7, Sora Editor 0.23.6 and bundled antlr and commons-io JARs. CI builds debug and unsigned release APKs, and the only unit and instrumented tests are the Android Studio examples.
- The file picker selects DEX files the user supplies. An AI Explanation screen that the README does not mention sends a smali method picked from the method list, with a default register-usage prompt or a user-edited one, to Google's Gemini 2.0 Flash API using an API key entered in settings; method flow diagrams are drawn locally with a bundled Graphviz viz.js build.
- LICENSE is Apache-2.0 (copyright 2024-26 Krushna Chandra), but the README adds that the code may not be used in private projects and that contributions are welcome only in this repository, restrictions Apache-2.0 itself does not contain, so reuse terms are unclear; the in-tree smali code keeps Google's BSD-style notices. This review built nothing and edited no DEX files, and the sources establish no REA connection.
