The Decompilation Wiki
Community wiki explaining how decompilers work, from disassembly, lifting and control-flow recovery to type recovery, control-flow structuring, quality evaluation and neural decompilation, citing the research behind each technique. It also keeps directories of decompilers, plugins, blogs and talks, pages on applied research such as symbol recovery, code similarity and vulnerability discovery, and a table of about 240 game reconstruction projects by original platform.
Requirements and limitations
- Reviewed at the 2026-10-15 main commit, from which a workflow builds the site with MkDocs Material and publishes it to GitHub Pages; reading needs only a browser. The README calls the wiki early in development: it has about 30 pages, several of them short, and the neural-decompilation page was last changed in September 2024, so newer LLM decompilation work needs separate checking.
- Listings are compiled from contributions, not tested. The decompiler directory’s 23 rows note open-source, inactive, plugin and educational status, and the program-reconstruction table lists 241 games, 39 marked completed; project status, original-file requirements and rights must be checked at each linked source. Cited papers are gathered in a linked Google Sheets list kept outside the repository.
- Changes arrive as GitHub pull requests: listing additions should give a description link, tags and a source link, while content changes to research areas need a citation or a reasoned argument. Local previews use Python and MkDocs.
- The repository is BSD-2-Clause; linked papers, tools and projects keep their own terms. The wiki was started by Zion Leonahenahe Basque and is maintained with community contributions; the reviewed sources establish no REA connection.
