Integration
crashlens
A crash-triage tool that turns Linux core dumps, runtime panics, exception traces and sanitizer reports into Markdown bug reports naming the crash type, the first frame in the user’s code and a stable signature. Its core-dump path calls the REA CLI to read the recorded crash and the binary layout, and can ask REA’s Ghidra provider for pseudocode of stripped functions; a Claude Code plugin bundles a skill and read-only MCP tools. It is a debugging integration around REA, not a reconstruction case, and its diagnostic accuracy remains author-reported.
Requirements and limitations
- The reviewed pin declares package version 0.1.0 and plugin version 0.2.0, and the README calls the project an early prototype. Text inputs, namely Go/Rust panics, Python, Java and Node.js traces and ASan/LSan/UBSan reports, need only Node.js 22.19+ or 24.11+. Core dumps need Linux x86-64, Python 3, the rea-agents package and a separate pwntools environment named by REA_PWNTOOLS_PYTHON; gdb, objdump and Ghidra 12.1.x with JDK 21 are optional. Windows minidumps and macOS crash reports remain roadmap items.
- Users supply the core dump and the exact binary that crashed. The source calls rea inspect-recorded-crash and inspect-binary-layout, and rea decompile with the Ghidra provider for stripped functions; crashlens itself computes the load bias, compares GNU build IDs and warns on a mismatch. package.json declares rea-agents 6.4.0 or later as an optional peer dependency, and the author’s post describes compatibility with a pinned rea-agents 6.4.0; this collection did not check other REA versions.
- The plugin bundles a skill and an MCP server. The README says three read-only tools but names four, and the server source defines analyze_failure, analyze_core_dump, decompile_function and analyze_crash_folder with read-only hints. A copy-paste prompt documents the same core-dump workflow for agents connected to REA’s own MCP server. Pseudocode is labeled as decompiler output, and crash types are heuristics with a stated confidence.
- The project states that the analyzed program is never executed and that gdb opens the core with script auto-loading and debuginfod disabled. The optional --ai flag sends the Markdown report, including code snippets and log lines, to the Anthropic API; the local web app listens on 127.0.0.1 and requires a session token. Core dumps can hold secrets, and reports include local paths, log lines and register values.
- CI runs typechecks and unit tests on Node 22 and 24, plus an end-to-end job that installs gdb, pwntools and the latest rea-agents and checks a report for a compiled NULL-dereference program. The README’s statement that agents using crashlens found the root cause in six of seven stripped-binary crash types is author-reported without published transcripts. This collection reviewed source and documentation without running the tool, REA or an agent.
- The project declares MIT and uses REA, also MIT, through its public CLI; Ghidra, the Anthropic API and analyzed programs keep their own terms. The author’s posts propose a crash-triage skill beside the reverse-engineer-anything skill and offer a pull request to a Hermes plugin repository; the reviewed sources do not establish that it was submitted, merged or adopted.
