BIOSUtilities

Python collection of 16 parsers and extractors for vendor BIOS/UEFI update formats, including AMI BIOS Guard (PFAT) and UCP, Dell PFS, Insyde iFlash/iFdPacker, Phoenix TDK Packer, Award, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Portwell, Toshiba and VAIO packages and several Apple EFI containers. Each utility checks whether an input matches its format and unpacks the firmware components, such as SPI/BIOS/UEFI, EC and ME images, plus bundled utilities into an output folder, optionally reporting structure information; an Apple EFI identifier names images from their IBIOSI tag. A main.py script tries every utility on the given files, and the biosutilities package exposes the same classes to Python.

Requirements & limits

  • Latest version at review: 25.07.01, published on PyPI as 25.7.1 on 2025-07-01. The reviewed main commit adds one later change, from 2026-10-18, that falls back to the system PATH when a tool is missing from the external folder. The README targets Python 3.10 to 3.13 on Windows, Linux and macOS; pyproject requires Python 3.10+ and offers pefile 2023.2.7 and dissect.util 3.20 as pinned extras.
  • Several utilities call external programs found on PATH or in an external folder next to the package: 7-Zip, UEFIFind and UEFIExtract from UEFITool, TianoCompress from EDK II and ToshibaComExtractor. The README says comextract must be compiled from source on Linux and TianoCompress on Linux and macOS. Decompiling Intel BIOS Guard scripts optionally uses the author's separate BIOS Guard Script Tool.
  • Users supply the vendor update executables, packages or images they already have. The repository holds only Python source, documentation and packaging files, with no BIOS images, sample packages or tests. The README warns that AMI PFAT components may have no explicit order, so the merged 00 -- ALL file usually is not a proper SPI/BIOS/UEFI image and trailing OEM data is left for the user to assess.
  • BSD-2-Clause-Patent, per LICENSE and pyproject. The README presents the collection for research and modding; this entry covers its parsing and extraction functions only, and extracted firmware remains under its vendors' terms. No package was processed.
